11:56am: two caterpillars line the rim. one (ed?) clings to the very top, on the lid's underside. one more (patti?) inches along the circumference of the cup's middle.

one (jordan?) remains in the grub. she does not seem as eager as the others to begin planning for chrysalization. for now she is still focused on feeding -- maybe she will enter chrysalization with more energy than her coworkers, when she decides it is time.

12:15pm: all five caterpillars have travelled to the top. one caterpillar is very still, while the other four continue to swivel their upper bodies.

from wonderopolis.org:

inside a chrysalis, a caterpillar's body digests itself from the inside out. the same juices it used to digest food as a larva it now uses to break down its own body!

from sciencing.com:

inside the chrysalis, several things are happening and it is not a “resting” stage.

1:23pm: mariah visits the caterpillars. they are settled on the top, aside from the two that keep coming down halfway before going up again. they seem anxious.

filmmaker alejandro jodorowsky on metamorphosis:

the caterpillar must accept its own disappearance in its transformation.

5:17pm: jordan has returned to the grub. two caterpillars cling to the lid and another two rest along the rim.

the silk webs extend from the bottom to the very top of the cup. karena had previously only noted the bottom layer due to its higher thickness. caterpillars that previously appeared to be freely roaming through the air with their upper bodies may have actually been gripping these barely visible silk threads, as one is doing now. like a jungle gym.
